About

Developing Student Radio is run by Ian Devlin, the former Development Officer of the Student Radio Association (2008-9).

This blog is about radio in the context of student broadcasting: what it is; how it works; the effects that developments in the industry have on students and how broadcasting in student radio can lead to a career in the radio industry.

I apologise in advance for contacting you via your blog. I’m now an ex-student (what is now Birmingham City University and I’m most definitely not a Birmingham City supporter), involved in hospital radio. I have found the SRA site and forums very helpful in my current task of researching for a new studio build. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to actively take part in the forums as, no matter how many times I ask, the system seems to be refusing to send me a validation email. As a result, not only can I not take part in the forums, but I also cannot contact anyone on it to get the matter corrected. Everything tells me that there is an error.
Is there anything you can do to help?
Kind regards
Mike in Torquay

Hi Mike,

Currently all forum members have to be approved by our Web Officer, due to heavy account creation by spammers. Normally I’d pass this to him to sort out.

However, the current website is set to relaunch very soon, probably before the end of the year. The existing forum will be archived and a new one launched due to the spam problems we have with the current software. This process is likely to be completed within the next few weeks so it may well be worth waiting for the relaunch to occur.

If you do want to activate your account you’re best off contacting our Web Officer directly: you can find his email address under assistants at http://studentradio.org.uk/exec/
